After actress Rhea Chakraborty was named in the FIR lodged by the Patna police in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, Bengali women have come forward with complaints of alleged online harassment. Kolkata Police has initiated an investigation after receiving a complaint over Bengali women being targeted on social media, The Indian Express reported.
“On August 3, our cyber cell has received a complaint against a sexually explicit content in connection with the case and investigation has been initiated,” Joint Commissioner of Police Murlidhar Sharma told The Indian Express.
Ever since the Patna Police lodged an FIR against Rhea and a few others, alleging abetment on suicide, there has been an online campaign against Bengali women, with trolls referring to them as ‘gold-diggers’ and practitioners of ‘black-magic’.
Social media users have also been coming out in support of Bengali women, and calling out those who are targeting an entire community.
Bengali actress Swastika Mukherjeee, actress-turned-MP Nusrat Jahan were among the celebrities voicing their opinion.

“We ‘Bengali Girls’ also run around — cook n conquer the world. Stop disgracing a community for your agendas. I’m sure you don’t know your Maach-Masala-Mishti well,” Nusrat Jahan tweeted.
“I do not support any1 against law & humanity… I am sure the Administration is doing their job, and the real story shall come out soon… but I definitely do not support anything or any1 causing disgrace to our culture.. #Proudtobebengali,” she added.
